Moonlight and Aurora

Two light sources were active in this shot: The aurora borealis and bright moonlight from the side, a very appealing combination for me. Patience was needed when taking the pictures, I spent several hours at this spot.

Glacier lagoon with blue ice

This glacier lagoon is a very exciting location. Icebergs in different shades of blue float in the water, with the mighty Vatnajökull glacier visible far behind. Low tide and high tide bring movement into the impressive ice world.

Coast impression from Iceland

I was particularly impressed by this location. In the foreground the large stones surrounded by water, then the wide bay in which the waves steadily run up on the black lava sand beach and in the background the majestic mountain range. All this offered an imposing impression, which I have captured in this picture.

Capturing the dynamics of the Atlantic waves together with the blocks of ice from the glacier lagoon is an exciting endeavour. When searching for motifs, never lose sight of the waves, which are regularly particularly strong. Then it''s time to seek safe ground for a short time.

Lofoten lies far to the north, which results in very short daylight periods in winter. The sunrise goes directly into the sunset, which can result in many interesting light situations.

Frozen blades of grass

Rain after a heavy frost had covered nature with a thick layer of ice, everything looked enchanted. I wanted to capture this unusual weather situation in a picture. It was only possible to move around on the icy paths in the Eastern Ore Mountains with great care.

In this shot, the light of the moon had illuminated the snow-covered mountains of the Lofoten Islands, along with aurora borealis in the form of a light sign. This light made the deep, cold night in the north a particularly impressive experience.

The beautiful contrast of jet-black lava sand to the swell and the snow-capped mountains in the background makes this image particularly appealing to me. The Atlantic waves run out on the flat shore area and thus serve as a mirror for the majestic mountain range.

This winter impression from the Lofoten Islands in Norway was taken under exciting conditions. To capture the dynamics of the surf, I had to choose the lowest possible shooting position. The Atlantic waves come with very different force, high attention was required to higher waves in time to get out of the way.

This photo was taken in harsh winter weather. The shooting position was not far above the water surface in order to be able to show an exciting perspective. With changing wave strength, it is important to be attentive in order to be able to bring yourself (and the equipment) to safety at any time if necessary.

Blue ice

Blue ice blocks of all sizes lie on the black lava beach in southern Iceland. They come from the Vatnajökull glacier and are washed out of the Jökulsárlón glacier lagoon onto the offshore black lava beach by the forces of the ebb and flow of the tide. There they are exposed to the wild surf of the Atlantic. Little by little they melt away.

Glacier view

The glacier lagoon Jökulsárlón is a special place. Blue shimmering ice floats in a large lake in front of the magnificent backdrop of the mighty glacier Vatnajökull. Cloudy weather allows the photographer to capture the blue color in particularly rich contrast. Here you can find motifs for almost all focal lengths. It is very worthwhile to plan a lot of time for this extensive location.

With an exposure time of 1/3 second, I was able to make the movement of the receding water and the rough dynamics equally visible.
